Seraphic Blue Translation Log - 01

So one day I suddenly felt that my to-do list was not piled up enough, so I decided to translate an RPG that I really like - Seraphic Blue.

Because I have never had experience translating programs, most of the problems I have encountered so far are not translation-related, but technical.

Let's talk about the program first. Rpgmaker 2000 is a very, very old engine, and the most troublesome thing is that it does not support Unicode. However, compared to various Galgames, Rpgmaker is easy to unpack, and there are also many programs that can be used. One of them is VGPerson's RPGRewriter, but although it claims to provide support for various languages, no matter how I operate, the text ends up being garbled in the game. Could this be because I opened it with EasyRPG?

The second method is the translation function built into EasyRPG. This is the method I am currently using, but as shown in the image, it will force the game to add a language option, and this game uses a custom menu, which causes graphical bugs. I haven't been able to solve this problem yet. But at least it works.

The second headache is that a large amount of text in the game is not in the script, but in these images. It may be relatively easier to deal with images with a single color background (although I still don't know how), but there are also words in many cutscenes in the game, which may require the help of experts. If all else fails, I will have to learn Photoshop.

The third issue is a common problem: the text is stored in individual maps, and it is unknown which locations these maps represent in the game. So I can only rely on the content of the text and my memory to roughly determine where these texts appear. Although translating them one by one is not impossible, it will be very troublesome during testing. Currently, I can only manually check over 400 files and try to mark which locations these texts belong to.

As for the remaining parts, it seems to be just a simple translation. Here are a few screenshots:
